    Contracts to conserve the forest

  2. 02 / Physical change

    Less soil conversion, if additional

Documented program

What the evidence tells us

The FONAFIFO program remunerates services related to carbon, biodiversity, water and landscape, within the Costa Rican forest law.

Conditions and limits

National recovery cannot be attributed entirely to payments. It must be verified if the contract really avoids a cut that would otherwise have occurred.

Other possible benefits

Protection of reservoirs and support for those who preserve.
