How the change works
- 01 / Public decision
Network and coordinate generation
- 02 / Physical change
More electricity from renewable sources
- 03 / Possible outcome
Less dependence on fossil fuels
Changing electrical production changes the footprint of many daily uses at the same time.
Research and local documents ↓What the evidence tells us
In the preliminary MIEM 2024 balance sheet, 99% of Uruguayan generation is renewable: hydroelectric, wind, biomass and solar.
Conditions and limits
2024 was favorable to hydroelectric power. The share concerns electricity, not all energy; biomass and dams have their own impacts. This is a preliminary annual figure.
Other possible benefits
Diversification of sources and less exposure to fuel prices.
